  August 22, 1888: Gottlieb Daimler and William Steinway met to discuss in detail the possibility of licensing production of Cannstatt engines in the United States. "Had a long talk with Daimler", Steinway would later note in his travel diary. On September 29, 1888, piano manufacturer Steinway subsequently established the Daimler Motor Company on Long Island, New York. Thus began the history of Daimler in North America, 125 years ago – just two years after the birth of the automobile. Daimler's participation in the Chicago World Fair of 1893 further boosted the sales of the American Daimler engines. The modified version of the Daimler "wire-wheel car" displayed at the fair was also the first working automobile to be displayed to the American public.

Through an international photo competition, Classic owners and enthusiasts the world over contributed the stunning photography of Mercedes-Benz Classic vehicles, making the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Classic calendar truly a calendar 'from fans for fans'. An international jury comprised of automotive photographers and classic experts selected the 12 winning images, after a pre-selection round by fans on Facebook. The end result is simply impressive.
