One of our greatest pleasures is to share our passion for the three-pointed star and to connect with fellow classic car aficionados. The 19th annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance held this weekend in Florida gives us the perfect opportunity to do exactly that and will probably draw about 18,000 visitors to walk among and enjoy the over 250 high-end vehicles competing for ribbons in this year's Concours on Sunday. Mercedes-Benz has been a sponsor of what is now considered the most prestigious classic car show on the East Coast ever since its inception in 1995. We are particularly excited about this year's honoree at the Concours, Jochen Mass, in commemoration of his victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Sauber-Mercedes C9 25 years ago in 1989. So, if you find yourself on the fairgrounds on Sunday, please visit us at the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge as we exhibit an exciting display of 120 Years of Mercedes-Benz Motorsports.

Since its invention in 1886, the automobile's performance potential and reliability have been put to the test time and time again: right from the very early days, Daimler and Benz vehicles were taking part in all notable events in Europe as well as in other countries around the world. They won races and repeatedly set new speed records in record-breaking runs. Motor sport was born some 120 years ago in France – and the success of the winning vehicles was all down to their two-cylinder "Système Daimler" engines. These first moments of glory were followed by numerous other motor racing events that were to prove significant in the success story of the Mercedes-Benz brand. Follow our activities on Facebook and have a look back over the company's involvement in motor sport that makes clear the extent to which this became the driving force behind the rapid developments made in motor vehicle technology.

Eternal youth is a miracle bestowed on only a small number of cars, and the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupe is definitely one of this elite group. The Stuttgart-based brand unveiled its new sports car together with the 190 SL at the International Motor Sports Show in New York in February 1954, and in so doing lit the fuse for an icon of the automotive world. With its flat, graceful body, the 300 SL had lost nothing of its freshness even as the millennium drew to a close and was voted "Sports car of the Century" in 1999.
