Acura's advanced safety features At Acura, your safety has always been a top priority. And this philosophy has never been more evident than in our current model lineup, with each vehicle providing a host of advanced safety features.

For example, one of our signature safety technologies is the available Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), which uses radar to warn a driver of a potential frontal collision. Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) monitors stability factors to detect oversteer or understeer, and if detected, uses a series of vehicle systems to avoid the problem. The Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) uses sensors in the front passenger seatback to determine the height and position of the passenger and will deactivate the side airbag if a child or small-statured adult leans into the side airbag deployment path.

Safety ratings Acura is the only luxury brand to receive Five-Star crash safety ratings for all of its 2009 models from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)* on its front and side impact crash tests.

But crash test results are only part of Acura's safety success story. Our myriad of advanced technologies also play an active role in collision mitigation. State-of-the-art features like Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Distribution, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) and Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) can help reduce the likelihood of a collision.

Acura makes pedestrian safety a high priority, adopting several safety measures that U.S. law does not require. For example, hood frames and panels are designed to help protect pedestrians by deforming over a broad area to absorb collision energy.
